   Description: Shortly after the commercial failure of her synth-pop album Y Kant Tori Read (recorded by a band of the same name), Amos submitted a track demo tape to Atlantic in with songs that would later be included in her solo debut Little Earthquakes.

   On "Precious Things", as well as other tracks, pain seeps through her voice, but simultaneously there are hints of passion, fragility and even ugliness. The latter two are pushed to the front in "Me and a Gun". The penultimate á capella track on the record. Tori Amos was raped at knifepoint.

   One of the best things about music is its ability to surprise. Despite being a committed fan of Tori Amos since late (when I bought the CD single of Me and A Gun, having read a rave review in a music paper by Billy Bragg) it was only relatively recently that I realised that that song, and a few others during the sessions for the Little Earthquakes album, were produced by Ian Stanley.

   This is Tori's debut album (if you disregard her album Y KANT TORI READ, as she would probably prefer you to do). Now, 15 years on from the original date of LITTLE EARTHQUAKES, Tori has a devoted fan base and this album sounds just as good now as I am sure it did then. The album opens with one of her most well known songs, "Crucify"/5().

   Rarely does a first album blow me away in the way that Little Earthquakes did; I still think about listening to this in college and thinking "wow". Still, decades later, Little Earthquakes still shakes things up with pointed songs and unique lyrical play that has become the sign that something is produced/written by Tori Amos/5().
